A workplace must define its owners’ ideologies. The making of this dental clinic went through intricately crafted interiors reflecting the doctor-client’s values, beliefs, passion and motivation. Having dreamt of a hospital where dental science would meet technology in a very homely atmosphere, the design allows for every wall in the space to express an inculcation of these inspirations, aspirations and ambitions. The client’s imagination was completely out of the box and hence the design required to stand true to his wishes.
The client was highly inspired by superheroes – Superman, Tony Stark, Hulk and Green Lantern Corps. It was a difficult challenge for the designers to connect dentistry to justify super heroes, however this has been achieved with an immaculate design sense. The areas were divided into different zones such as Superman Works, Ironman Works, Green Lantern works, Hulk In, Hulk Out, Jarvis, Café Dope, The Guardians of Smile and Den. Each area has been connected with the superhero’s quality to an element in dentistry and that has been converted into a modern, technologically advanced medical space.
For example – Superman does not bleed; thus evolved the philosophy of painless dentistry with all-tissue lasers for the area. The fluidic floating concierge called Jarvis expresses confidentiality and is the first point of contact. Café Dope stands out in its own sense of existent since no dentist’s clinic ever has a café. The Den has been designed as a multidimensional space of rest, recreation, re-corporation, networking and education. It has been created as a modern day relaxing space with a fusion of the traditional and contemporary.
It takes courage to be unique and this project holds true to firstly, the client having unconventional ideas, and then the designers’ making sure these were achieved in the best possible way. “Form follows function, and an artist needs to balance his design between the two. The client’s imagination happened to be out of the universe so we needed to design and execute his thoughts that were not only out of the box but rather out of the world,” explain the designers.
